On the meaning of her paintings, Joni Bassett comments, “I preserve time’s molecules that tell a story of color translated by shape.”Fascinated by the act of preservation, it was not until a few years ago that Bassett discovered acrylics. She believes that becoming familiar with acrylic has helped her to experiment more freely as an artist and allowed her to paint entirely from her self-conscious. Bassett, who graduated with a BFA from Alfred University in 1991, now works as a Customer Service Representative for GOLDEN’S.
She lives in South New Berlin.
Scott Bennett Scott Bennett has painted professionally since graduating with an MFA from Syracuse University in 1974. Early in his career, Bennett drew inspiration from fellow Abstract Expressionists and gained notoriety from art critics such as Clement Greenberg. In the 1990’s, Bennett made a dramatic shift to paint representational works inspired by natural landscapes. Today, he paints both abstractly and representationally. Living in Syracuse, he is a part-time technical service consultant for GOLDEN and has worked as an adjunct painting professor at Syracuse University.
